Observation notes: This male Telea polyphemus flew into my open horse barn some time during the night of August 7-8. As the picture shows, he is very fresh. He'd flown into the tack room somehow and wouldn't have made it back out, so I carried him to my north facing porch, where he spent the day. When first placed there, he flashed his hind wings revealing the eye spots - very impressive. He spent most of the day with his wings over his body in butterfly fashion. At 8:30 pm he had still not flown but had shown signs of rousing (he opened and shut his wings, still holding them over head).
