Coordinator notes: There is also the possibility this is the Northwestern Fritillary (S. hesperis) but I settled on the Great Basin Fritillary because of the date of your observation and in the mountains of western Colorado, it does begin to fly earlier than hesperis and is very commonly found at wet soil. Although I can confidently identify our Colorado Fritillaries from the upperside, the undersides are of course best for certain identifications. Mike
