Observation notes: Observed on a red oak (Quercus shumardii or one of its hybrids), 7" dbh. Tree had suffered sunscald in its early life, but was healing the wound well. In the lower crown only. Most of the caterpillars had dropped off, but a few remained in the tree. Moderate defoliation of a few limbs in the lower crown.
