Observation notes: I found this male polyphemus mouth on windy day in the shade on a side walk. My sister was looking out at the traffice , so i went with. To my suprise as i walked back to help with a project I saw what looked like a moth fluttering in the wind. I stayed by it and called for my mom or my sister to take a look at what i found, but they were to busy. When my dad got back i asked if i could hold it, and he said YES! When i had picked up the moth my dad said " i have a friend named Jonny i used to work with that can tell you what type it is". As i walked along to ask the question i had to have my hand slightly over the moth or it would have blown away. So when i asked jonny he said it was a polyphemus and was wondering if i wanted a container and i said yes i did.the moth got in to the plastic contianer and is very calm, its intenas are fand out and he ceeps on rubbing his hands sometimes together. the temperature is approximately 72 degrees, windy and sunny. i found the moth at the Bellevue university campus in Nebraska. the moth is approximately 4 and 1/2 inches long.
