Observation notes: It was on an annual plant (an impatiens variant) in my back yard. I was hand watering several plants and the moth dropped to the ground when I was watering the plant. I immediately stopped watering the plant and the moth climbed back onto the plant fairly quickly. When I took the photo's, the flash caused the moth to drop to the ground again after two flashes. I took one photo while it was on the ground and then stopped. The moth did not wait too long before crawling back onto the plant. It crawled back to the same approximate place on the plant. I checked about 20-30 minutes later and the moth was in the same approximate location. The moth was gone the next morning.
The plant is in a large planting bed under a canopy of trees: 2 or 3 pin oaks, one red oak, one maple and a row of common red cedars. Most of the plants in the bed are hostas, ferns, astilbe, coral bells and a few annuals with shredded wood as a patchy mulch. Also, there are two bird baths and a gravel path.
