Observation notes: Found near my garden pond, on the concrete patio. Plants nearby are common garden plants, iris, hosta, fern, false indigo, columbine. The caterpillar raises its head and faces a threat and appears to open its mouth. Striking is the appearance of a shiny eye on top of the head.
