Pacuvius Duskywing
Erynnis pacuvius

Observation date: May 28, 2015
Submitted by: Kristie Nelson
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Second warm day after persistent rainy period of > 2 - 3 weeks where butterflies have vanished from our yard and temps were low. Butterflies quickly returned to damp soil in our gardens yesterday (even abundant blues have been absent!) This flew in to damp soil -- extensive gray scaling. The white FW spots were clear on the underside of the wing, & in flight (is that found on persius?). The HW spots were also apparent shining though the underside of the wing (in flight/closed wing). There have been 2 previous pacuvious here, but this one had more prominent gray scaling, and pale spots obvious on both upper & underside of wing (lower photos shows some UW). Perhaps another spp. ?? Looking at photos on BofA, I see so much variation, I turn this ID to you!! Please help!
