Nessus sphinx
Amphion floridensis

Observation date: May 17, 2015
Submitted by: xacidreemx
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Never encountered something like this before. It had movements very similar to a hummingbird but appears to be a moth. We made jokes about it being a Lobster Bee due to the shape of its tail and its markings/colors. As you can see in the pictures it was drawn to the cut lilacs on the table. Today was sunny and warm, right around 70 degrees, and we were at the edge of the woods in the shade.
