American Dagger Moth
Acronicta americana

Observation date: September 21, 2014
Submitted by: Kyuss
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found this caterpillar climbing the foundation of my house. Only plant material nearby would be my lawn. (no gardens etc) A wasp was attacking it, which drew my attention. I think the poor bugger is now host to a wasp egg. As I had no clue what kind of caterpillar it was (poisonous or not) I moved it out behind my house into the meadow. I would normally raise it to find out what species it was, but there was no host plant so I would have no idea what to feed it. It's wet due to the downpour just prior to it's discovery.
