  Sighting 1004048

Observation date: August 31, 2014
Submitted by: SPeterson
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: We live in Anacortes on Fidalgo Island, WA. The temperature outside was 65 degrees and climbing; a light breeze coming from the southwest and a broken overcast sky is present. The moth was (and still is) simply resting on our backyard screen, which faces south. I have read (if we've identified it correctly) that these types of moths eat Douglas Fir trees (of which we have one in our front yard). Is this type of moth a threat? Further, this is the first time in our twelve and a half years in this house that we've ever seen this type of moth.
