Great Spangled Fritillary
Speyeria cybele

Observation date: July 04, 2014
Submitted by: rrbold
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I have been seeing this particular species all summer; as recently as 15 August. It is a more saturated orange than my photograph shows, but this is the what my camera gets.
Status: Resident
Verified by: rosslayberry
Verified date: August 17, 2014
Coordinator notes: The long wing cell near the lower part of the forewing does not have a black spot in it, so it is this species. The other similar species, Aphrodite, has the spot. This one is a large dark female, less orange than ones you see earlier in the season. Ross Layberry.
