Observation notes: It appeared to be digging in the ground with head portion. It was not happy when I picked it up with sticks off the ground; I was mowing the lawn and noticed it there. It was below a chinese elm tree. Not sure if it fell out of tree or what. We have had cecropia moths and many other large moths and caterpillers in the past, but never one like this.
