Artichoke Plume Moth
Platyptilia carduidactyla

Observation date: June 18, 2012
Submitted by: Linda Beek
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I've been seeing these odd little moths clinging to our siding quite a bit in the evenings lately, but I'm a bit stumped - the only two species I find that resemble this (Anstenoptilia marmarodactyla comes closest to the markings, but says it's indigenous to CA???) don't show Minnesota as part of their range. On the evening I took this shot, temp was still in the low to mid-80s, extremely humid, slight breeze. The species that most looks like it lists host plants in the salvia and monarda families, and I have several varieties of plants in both families planted in various spots in my gardens, if that's any help here.....
