Observation notes: I'm forwarding this picture of a moth I rescued from Turtle Lake, Sask. I saw him floating on his side in the water when I was fishing about 100 yards off shore north of Indian Point on Turtle Lake. I put the end of my fishing rod under him and he kind of grabbed on. I noticed right away there was a big chunk of his wing was missing. Brought him to shore and laid him on the ground in a bush area beside our house. I checked on him this afternoon because it started storming a bit and found him clinging to a bare stick about 8"off the ground. Now I have him in my house. I found on the web that a moth could be fed sugar water if he is placed on a cloth with the sugar water soaked in the cloth. That is what I did. It also said that his wings will pump is he starts eating/drinking....they did. The reason I'm sending this to you is because in your write up about the Columbia moth you don't mention Saskatchewan as being a place they could be found. We are about 120 km north of North Battleford. He wasn't moving at all when I brought him in the house but as soon as I put him on the cloth he started pumping his wings. About 3 hours after eating he started flapping his wings and tried to get out of the container I had him in. He is also walking around on the floor of the container now and was holding on to my finger very calmly while I was taking his picture. He's a cutie.
