Southwestern Orangetip
Anthocharis thoosa

Observation date: April 03, 2026
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: If I'm understanding BONM this would be an A. thoosa coriande. I've seen this butterfly before, but it has never landed for me. Warm, sunny day with periodic wind. This was on a portion of the old road moving in toward more pine than oak...more of a mountain environment than PJ forest.

Coordinator notes: Kelly this is a very important record, a first for Colfax County as best I can see. it also is hard to tell if this is thoosa or julia, but either species would be new for Colfax County. Can you take me to that spot in a couple weeks? they are hard to photograph, as you note, but I would like to get a couple specimens for closer looks. I'll call it thoosa for now . . .
