Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found at its spot in the San Bernardino National Forest. I believe this species has not been seen here for many years.
Status: Resident

Verified date: April 27, 2025
Coordinator notes: This species is rarely seen as adults, because they favor dangerous cliff habitats where the hostplants grow and rarely stray. I risked my life to catch my short series of the coastal subspecies in San Luis Obispo County at Devil's Gap. Others have found your subspecies in recent years but California lists them as a species of concern. In any case, I have never gone to the San Bernardino Mountains to look for Moss Elfins though I have gone to that mountain range several time for other species-Ken Davenport
