Coordinator notes: Similar to the Aphrodite Fritillary but S. aphrodite does not have such heavy, dark basal areas on the wings and much thinner black bars on on the upper wings. This is the subspecies found west of the Continental Divide - electa - and it has silver spots on the hindwing discs on the underside; east of the Continental Divide, ssp. hesperis normally has unsilvered spots, sometimes touched with a little silvering and full silvered spots from there is very rare.
