Date notes: I was out working in my garage when this flew in. Scared me to death. Thought it was a butterfly except that it flew too fast and it was out at night. So that is why I thought it might be some form of a moth. Hard to tell in pic but it is approx. 2" from end to end. Can you identify this for me?

Observation notes: It flew very fast, well faster than a butterfly might. I am located in Kansas City, MO and it was an especially cool night for our area in June.
