Observation notes: Have seen hundreds of these "ladies" this summer. This Painted Lady was nectaring atop a butterfly bush at the garden center I work at. Briefly flew around at my approach and quickly returned; this species actually seems to like being photographed or stroked. Approx. size: 1.25" from belly to top of wingtip. Weather: 75 degrees, nice day
