Observation Notes: I only ever saw this species the one time, and never after that. It seemed to like the flowers of the thistle!

Review Notes: This is a female; very different in appearance from the male of this species. Many people think that this butterfly is a subspecies of S. cybele; while others think it is best treated as a distinct species; S. leto.
