Observation notes:
At about 3:40 PM I first spotted this Great Spangled Fritillary butterfly nectaring on a Tithonia blossom by the deck on the south side of our house. By the time I’d grabbed my camera, it had swooped down to the grass. A bit later it took flight and then landed on one of our deck chairs.
At the time, the air temperature was 70°F and slowly rising, the dew point was 48°F, the humidity was 46% and slowly dropping, the air pressure was 28.77 inches and slowly dropping, and there was a 9 mph breeze blowing from the NNW under partly cloudy skies.
