Lapara coniferarum

Observation date: September 19, 2018
Date notes: I checked on the caterpillar again at 6:32 pm and it had moved further up the same side of the pine tree and was stationary.

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: 90 degree sunny day. Caterpillar found on north side of long-needle pine tree about 14" in diameter & 3 feet above the ground. When bringing my iphone up close for a photo, it turned its upper end away, so it is alive. It is about 2/3 covered with what appear to be egg sacs, perhaps from a parasitic wasp or something similar. 3.5 hours later it had traveled 43" higher up the tree.
