Anise Swallowtail
Papilio zelicaon

Observation date: April 15, 2016
Submitted by: ezeemonee
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Butterfly was feeding at mustard and black sage and then landed in the grass to shelter from the wind. Sunny, windy day in the 70's F.
Status: Resident
Verified by: Ken Davenport
Verified date: April 19, 2016
Coordinator notes: The individual here does have spots on the abdomen which are a characteristic of P. polyxenes coloro, but coloration and shape of the yellow band spots and locality favor calling this a zelicaon with some past gene flow with coloro.
