Phaon Crescent
Phyciodes phaon

Observation date: October 30, 2015
Submitted by: Martin and Sara
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I saw it land, in the yew tree, and it looked to be too small for a Buckeye, too large for a Crescent. Grabbed a camera and managed a few images before it flew off - on a gloomy damp afternoon. Silvery checkerspots are fairly regular in our area but NEVER a Gorgone before today . . . (rather excited :o)
Status: Resident
Verified by: stomlins701
Verified date: December 03, 2015
Coordinator notes: This is a very faded Phaon Crescent. The underside pattern is a match with that species. The underside hindwings of Gorgone Crescents are different. SAT
