Observation notes: In Wagner's book "Caterpillars of Eastern North America" he shows a dark form which looks similar to this one. But I'm not sure. It was 1-1.5 inches, so maybe a small Giant Leopard Moth. Saw two, both crossing a wooded trail late afternoon, quick walkers. There is red spotting along the sides.
