Observation notes: This butterfly was perched on blue elderberry blossoms next to Gale Creek near Lake Kachess. It occasionally flew off, but returned to the same place each time. Weather was sunny, about 60 degrees, breezy. It constantly opened and closed its wings, but would sit still with wings folded up for several seconds. The underside of the wings were very dark, barely two-toned with a wide, upper band slightly lighter than the lower.
