Coordinator notes: This is a very rare find. The Peacock Butterfly is known in North America, as far as I know, only from a few records in the Montreal area, in Quebec. It is believed to have come over on a boat; the first records were very near the docks. I have never heard of any records from New York State. It hibernates as an adult, like Mourning Cloaks, for example. This one tried to hibernate in the factory, but died. Ross Layberry
