Coordinator notes: There is some disagreement amongst authorities as to whether or not the red admiral can survive winters in northern Michigan. It is believed that the specimens seen in the spring are migrants from more southern locations. The very mild winter of 2011-2012 may have allowed for some individuals to survive in your area.
