Observation notes: I found this White-lined sphinx just sitting on the window sill by my front door. I began taking photos, ran inside to get my better camera and it hadn't moved. I wondered if it were dead since it had a little spider web material on the wing. I gently tried to pull off the webbing and it moved, sluggishly but it was alive. My cat came around so I picked the moth up trying to move it to a safer place. He started flapping his wings and after a few tries, he finally took off. My husband and I wonder if he was a new moth and was just drying his wings? Beautiful, huge, hairy. Glad I got photos but even happier it was OK and flew off. It is a sunny day, about 75F. Moth was sitting in the shade, basically not moving at all.
