Fatal Metalmark
Calephelis nemesis

Observation date: October 07, 2011
Submitted by: Alison Davies
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This beautiful Fatal Metalmark gave me a wonderful birthday gift by not only showing up this morning, but also by allowing me to photograph it while it was feeding (until a bee chased it away!). It was holding on tight to these tiny blossoms while the wind was whipping it around and wasn't bothered by the challenge at all, but when the bee came close, the Metalmark was gone in a flash. [These tiny white blossoms are a favorite of the Metalmark and they sprout from what looks like a wild weed, but I'll try to find out what it is.] Weather: Clear and sunny, approx. 68 degrees with light winds.
