Observation notes: Saw this butterfly originally in summer 2007, but is flighty and never got a picture. She landed on my back the morning after my wife died and sat in my hand and then flew away. One has returned this past week. It sits on the oak tree and the outer wing is indistinguishable from oak bark, but I got this picture as it took off and you can see the orange stripes or eyes. I've never seen it feeding on plants just sitting on the tree.
