Fatal Metalmark
Calephelis nemesis

Observation date: July 16, 2011
Submitted by: Alison Davies
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I just couldn't believe how fortunate I was to run into this rare little creature again! I have a strong feeling that it's the same one I photographed 3 days ago - it's so unique and I've never seen another one like it. Luckily for me, it's very tolerant about being photographed. [Cloudy morning, light breeze, and I'm guessing that it was about 68 degrees.]
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: If you go out in the San Diego County deserts at the right time, you may find the similar but different colored (top side) Wright's Metalmark, but probably mid-summer is not the time. September-October may be.
Checklist region(s): San Diego County, California, United States
