Horace's Duskywing
Erynnis horatius

Observation date: April 25, 2024
Submitted by: DeepSkyKelly
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Really stumped with this one too. Most striking feature was its iridescent sheen. Beautiful! I presume this means it was "fresh." Horaces is a possibility, but this one has a dark body--very unlike the images in Glassberg. This individual was not large, and the patterning was a bit different than Rocky-Mountain.

Coordinator notes: it's not a perfect horatius, but it's definitely not Rocky Mountain. It's also not Mottled (which would have been cool). Small size suggests afranius, but the sheen does not match. The sheen points to horatius and the date is within its normal flight sequence.
