Observation date: June 03, 2023
Submitted by: stevecary
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: several were seen, some normal but quite a few of these unusual forms which I might call marginata; never have seen a mated pair in which both were marginata. or maybe this is a different form?

Coordinator notes: Hi Steve...a little behind on my verifications...the name echo may apply to any Celastrina found in the plateau are in SW Colorado but not in any of the mountainous areas. You are right about "a different form." Western Colorado has C. lucia lumarco which express the various forms - in fairly high percentage. In your upper photo, the one with the large blotch on the hindwing is what I believe James Scott described as form lucimargina. If you go to www.mountainscholar.org and search James Scott or Papilio (New Series), the description of lumarco is in Papilio (New Series) #12, p. 48. Mike
