Observation notes: I submitted a copper that I thought was an American Copper. You think it is a Purplish Copper. So I went back to my camera photo card and found the side shot of this individual. So Now I hope this helps you. Do you still think it is a Purplish Copper? Thanks for your expertise it's great to be able to submit sightings to BAMONA

Coordinator notes: Thank you, Allison! This ventral view completely confirms the previous submission of yours as a Purplish Copper and makes it easily distinguishable from the Bronze. The angle the light hits the individual can affect the amount of purple sheen you can see on the dorsal side. Hence, your initial sighting appearing more bronze in color compared to many sightings you see online. The other dorsal characteristics I pointed out still made sense to call it a Purplish, and submarginally on the ventral HW view you now provided, the Bronze would look completely different. Thanks again for this subsequent submission, and if you happen to capture both dorsal and ventral views in the future, submitting both can be of great help! As I'm sure you're aware, this isn't always possible as butterflies can be extremely finicky, and I'll always try my best with any view provided. Thanks for all of your submissions and glad you enjoy the site! -jmgesell
