Common Checkered-Skipper
Burnsius communis

Observation date: July 08, 2023
Submitted by: Lycaena
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Photo seems to eliminate Grizzled Skipper but leaves me uncertain about communis vs. any other possible species at this site.

Coordinator notes: The Common Checkered Skipper...a somewhat worn female which have less white markings on the wings than Pyrgus ruralis...the only other checkered skipper that might be found if you go higher up into the forest (in and around dry clearing of (not always but primarily Ponderosa Pine). A much smaller skipper than the Common...normally maybe about half to three-quarters the size. Mike
