Observation notes: I found a caterpillar on May 19, 2023 in Dona Ana NM. I raised it and this is what it became. The caterpillar was on a brick wall.

Coordinator notes: nice work rearing a caterpillar through to the adult stage! the only "tigerish" swallowtail you have in your area is Two-Tailed Swallowtail. I suspect the only host plants (what the caterpillar eats) in your area are 1) hoptree (=wafer ash = Ptelea trifoliata) and maybe velvet ash (= Arizona ash = Fraxinus velutina). You might look around to see if either of these plants are nearby. That was probably what the caterpillar ate while growing up, before it left the tree to find a place to pupate, which you kindly provided. thanks for submitting!
