Pahaska Skipper
Hesperia pahaska

Observation date: May 14, 2023
Submitted by: Joshua C
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Found on a trail near the top of the north canyon wall, at a spot I would consider to be a hilltop. I thought this was a Pahaska skipper at first based on the hilltopping behavior, but the thick and large black stigma on the dorsal forewing confused me, since I haven't been able to find any pics of Pahaska with a stigma this large. I can't find any better matches though.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Joshua, I see your confusion. this is a female. the large black DFW patch is only pigment, not a stigma. The narrow view of the ventral HW allows me to call it Pahaska rather than Green.
