Tersa Sphinx
Xylophanes tersa

Observation date: November 01, 2022
Date notes: A student brought these two caterpillars to school today. She told me that they were found on plants her mother brought into their house in order to protect the plants from an early cold snap. These are the fourth and fifth moth larvae to be found on the plants in the last three days. The address of the house is: 4414 S 231st St W, Goddard, KS 67203. I believe the plants were Pentas based on what I was told and what was left in the container with the caterpillars. They were purchased earlier in the summer, but I don't know from where.

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Brought to school by a student. These were found inside their house on plants (believed to be Pentas) that were brought into the house to keep the plants from freezing. There was considerably more vegetation on the plant samples this morning, but the larvae ate it very quickly.
