Observation notes: Photographed through the window on a cool morning (0C). The caterpillar was resting on an ornamental crabapple leaf, which it had been feeding on, as evidenced by the chew marks. It didn't appear to be actively eating at the time of the photograph. It rolled up in a ball once before stretching out again. I saw it on the same tree (different leaf) the day before, 22C in the mid-afternoon.
