Callippe Fritillary
Speyeria callippe

Observation date: June 24, 2022
Submitted by: ezeemonee
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: On Piute Peak. Pretty confident on the ID. Main ID cue is the long trapezoidal discal spot on the hindwing. Too large for S. Coronis or S. Egleis. Also butterfly size was not large. Sunny day in the 80’s F.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: Subspecies macaria. The only other Speyeria recorded for the Piute Mountains is S. egleis tehachapina which was last collected in this range over 20 years ago. It may have gone extinct because of long term drought and global warming.-Ken Davenport
