Sandia Hairstreak
Callophrys mcfarlandi

Observation date: March 16, 2022
Submitted by: Joshua C
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This hairstreak seemed to be energy deprived, and it didn't fly away when I was right next to it or when I put my hand near it. It crawled onto my hand and probed it with it's proboscis. I walked a bit farther down the trail with it on my hand, then I decided to take it back to the bit of water farther back on the trail in case it needed nourishment. To my delight it flew off my hand onto a rock near the water, so maybe it got the nourishment it needed from the minerals on my hand.
