Compton Tortoiseshell
Nymphalis vaualbum

Observation date: April 03, 2021
Date notes: Cool Spring day, still freezing lightly at night
Submitted by: CaroB
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: I first thought it was a moth on my porch. It was in torpor and had its wings together. I brought in the house for a closer inspection and after coming out of its torpor, it opened its beautiful wings and I was better able to identify. I decide to keep it inside overnight as a snowstorm was scheduled (and did occur as you can see through window picture). I will release it when temperatures outside are more clement tomorrow (supposedly).
