Western Tiger Swallowtail
Papilio rutulus

Observation date: August 26, 2020
Submitted by: mstanek
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Do you know the plant? It was trying to hover on it like a hummingbird so I caught a great picture of it using its wings independently. It was super cool to watch. I know this was a different individual from the one I submitted a few days ago because its tail was not damaged.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: When you encounter a good Two-Tailed Tiger Swallowtail you'll really be impressed. Those are rarely seen in most of California where they occur, rarely in Ventura County (Frazier Mountain area).-Ken Davenport. Yours is a nice female Western Tiger, no I don't know many plants.-Ken Davenport
Checklist region(s): United States, California, Ventura County
