Coronis Fritillary
Speyeria coronis

Observation date: June 01, 2020
Submitted by: joeleahy
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Sunny, hot day at the bottom of a ravine with a small brook. They were feeding on Eriogonum umbellatum.(Sulphur-Flower). About 100 ft away was a large patch of Canada Violets (Viola canadensis) in a shady area of the ravine. Some were puddling in a moist area near the stream.

Coordinator notes: It appears as though you have at least two different fritillary species pictured here. The one in the last photo is definitely Speyeria coronis, and I’ll verify this sighting as such. However, the individual on the left in your first (and fourth) photo looks like S. edwardsii. Anyway, thanks for submitting your sighting!
