One-eyed sphinx
Smerinthus cerisyi

Observation date: April 27, 2020
Submitted by: Dawnschilde
Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: Big boi! Wings 3 1/2 to 4", never seen one here before. Striking coloration and unusual (to me, probs not to a pro) wing shape. In shade but mid-afternoon and looked out of place (nocturnal colors?) approached respectfully, did NOT try to handle but was able to place hand close for size reference.
Status: Resident

Coordinator notes: You may also call this Smerinthus ophthalmica, the Western Eyed Sphinx.
