Observation notes: Found in the morning on a clear day after a night of rain. Moth was found on the pavement by a glass door of a building. We thought perhaps it had been stunned by hitting the glass. The wings were not moving but the legs were. Picked up the moth carefully by hand. It didn't struggle. Carefully put it in a container with some wood violet leaves inside our house and covered it with a paper plate with holes made. A few minutes later, we removed the paper plate from the container and took pictures of the moth which had his proboscis extended. We then took it out to a cement seat, gently put the leaves it was on in the early morning sun and where the leaves gave partial shade and took more pictures. The moth was moving his legs and seemed to be steadying itself a bit. Carrying it in the leaves, we put it in our garden by our phlox where we have seen "hummingbird/hawkmoth" moths in previous years. Our phlox are near to blooming.
