Observation notes: We have some maple trees in our yard but it was found on our steps. It was very big, the coin in the picture is a quarter.

Coordinator notes: This guy is an Imperial Moth Caterpillar. They eat Basswood, birch, cedar, elm, maple,oak, pine, sassafras, sweet gum, sycamore, walnut, as well as other woody species.
