Observation notes: located on the prairie - Ft. Union National Monument. Elevation 6700 feet; Watrous, NM, Mora County. Hanging on grass fronds everywhere.

Coordinator notes: These are caterpillars of Hemileuca oliviae. This species feeds on grasses. It is closely related to Hemileuca hualapai and H. tricolor (Rubinoff & Sperling 2002), whose caterpillars feed on grasses and legume species, respectively.
