Observation date: October 02, 2014

Specimen type: Photograph
Observation notes: This is an older record of a skipper found over a year ago. Based on the underwing pattern I thought it would be easy to identify. Going through the field guides I couldn't match it up to any of the skipper until I noticed Kaufman's worn male Sachem. Glassberg's male Sachem seems to agree. The pattern is more pronounced in my picture. There is also the "squarish brown patch at the center of the HW bottom margin". As I recall it was a bright warm day at Virgin Creek Beach. This butterfly was nectaring on this flower near the creek.

Coordinator notes: This species is a real chameleon and the underside is extremely variable. The key to the ID here is actually the big black prominent spot in the forewing of this male-Ken Davenport
